Sending your video in an email is super easy and the best way to ensure it get's watched.

Most job advertisements come with a way to contact the advertiser directly via email and even if they don't, it's usually not too hard to find. Given you have done something a little different it's important to draw attention to it. Do this by emailing the employer directly rather than using the "apply here" button.

Make sure you attach your resume to your e-mail as well, because after they watch your video they'll be eager to dig a little deeper. Don't send too much text in the email. You don't want to overwhelm them. It's important to draw their attention to the video you've made as quickly as possible.

Below are two examples. One is to simply post the Wistia or YouTube link to your video, this looks something like this,

Dear Michael,

I'm reaching out to you regarding the above advertised position. (put the job ID in the subject line)

I think you'll find my skills and experience are a perfect fit for the role, but before you look at my resume attached, I'd like to take a minute of your time to introduce myself in this 60 second video pitch. (click the link below or click here)

I hope you enjoy my video and I'd like to thank you in advance for taking the time to review my application. I look forward to hearing from you at your convenience.

Kind regards,

Craig Thomas

The other way is to add an image to your message and use the hyperlink option to embed your video behind the image. The image you will use is a screen shot of your video. Simply play your video in Wistia or YouTube and stop it at the location in the video you would like to use as the screenshot. Copy and paste this image into any image editing software (like Canva, Paint or Paintbrush) crop the image down to the screen only and save it as a jpg file.

Then upload your image into your e-mail and insert the Wistia or YouTube link.

This looks something like this,

Dear Michael,

I'm reaching out to you regarding the above advertised position. (put the job ID in the subject line)

Note: Please ensure the image you use in your email does not take up more than 25% of the space. Some e-mail spam scanners will send an email to junk if it has a large image in it. It's really easy to reduce the size of your image in the email so it doesn't take up too much space.

Also, don't forget to attach your resume to the email.
